Sign Messaging Parameters

DMS Response Message Priority BINS

These are the rules that the sign itself performs when more than one message is assigned to it. The messages are prioritized within that signs Message Queue following these priorities. Messages within a bin are a higher priority to those messages in lower bins. Messages within the same bin will prioritized using the Priority Number on the Library message or Template message. Template Messages also adjust this number higher based on criteria such as DMS distance from an incident.

Message Phase Merge Matrix

  • These are the default rules the sign follows to merge two single phase messages in its Message Queue. This can always be overridden by unchecking the “Allow Merge” box of a message.
  • Default messages can not merge with any other messages.
  • RESPONSE L3 messages will not merge with another RESPONSE L3 message to prevent two active weather messages from displaying on a sign.
  • There can only be one truck parking, travel time, or manual message on a sign at any given point so there is no need for those to merge with themselves.
